Zomtober 2017 Week Two

First off, congratulations to everyone taking part in this year's challenge, on getting off to the "flying start" that was week one. Some fantastic eye candy on display and loads of truly inspiring stuff!
(I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know that next year, the first Sunday falls on the 7th of the month!)
Also, a big "Thank You" for all the kind comments and encouragement on my first ever Zomtober post last week!

Here then,  fruits of this weeks labours, starting off with another trio of zombies for my horde. These are three mini's made up from the Warlord Games 'Male Zombies' sprue.
Actually "gangers" for my ATZ:FFO campaign, but still technically "survivors" I suppose, ths trio of bikers are from the Warlord Games sprue - I hadn't planned previous mini's very well, and didn't have enough female torso's left to make two pillion riders.
I also managed to get the 12 strong unit of zombies done that I needed to complete the Dragon Rampant "Undead" 24 point warband.
These were from a 'split pack' of sprues, containing enough parts for twenty zombies, purchased on evilbay. The remaining eight will be going in the 17th Century "horde".
I think it took longer to assemble the mini's than it did to paint them!
They were done as a 'speed paint' with a zombie flesh wash (just weak enough to allow some of the grey base coat to show through), then the tattered clothing was block painted in various shades of brown. All the 'open wounds' were picked out with Army Painter 'Abomination Gore' and Citadel 'Ruby Red' and finally the eyes and teeth were picked out before giving them an overall wash with Army Painter 'Strong Tone'.

Considering that Thursday and Friday were completely lost due to long distance gigs, plus the fact that a couple of terrain projects were tackled, I'm quite pleased with this week's output - roll on week three!

    1. Cheers Andy - nowhere near your prolific output, but "nibbling away" at the pile :-)

  2. Wow!! You are a veritable zed-painting machine, Wargame Addict. What a corking array of brain-eating beasties you've finished. Splendid stuff.

As an aside, how do you find "Dragon Rampant"? I'm looking for something to scratch a fantasy rank & flank itch. Does "DR" do it?

    1. I think Andy takes the "zed-painting machine" title hands down Simon ;-)
Dragon Rampant does the job for me, I've sent you an email with a detailed description.

    2. "I've sent you an email with a detailed description" - and I'm very grateful to you for all your sage "Dragon Rampant" advice :-)

  3. You are clearly on a roll, Greg. That's an impressive selection of figures you've posted here. Great stuff!

    1. Thank you Bryan, I would have been glad of just a bit more 'hobby time' over the last fortnight, but I'm pleased with what I've managed to get done. Thankfully the diary looks a bit more relaxed for a couple of weeks now :-)

  4. Good lord you are pushing for it. Makes me think I should try harder.... maybe I shall thanks to you.

    1. Cheers Clint - I've adopted a "little and often" approach for the challenge ;-)
Normally, I'd only get stuff done if I had plenty of time to work through a project - a lot of these are getting quick splashes of paint while I grab a brew!

  5. Good trio of zeds, I'd be tempted to get some of these too if I didn't have more painted zeds than I'll ever use/need.
Love the bikers too, but do think that their price is a rip-off.

  6. Thanks Joe, I must admit, when I get to the "grosse" I'll probably quit - unless there's the occasional 'character' zombie that REALLY tickles my fancy ;-)
I was very disappointed with the contents of the Bikers box, even though it came as part of a bundle offer so I didn't pay full whack. I certainly won't be getting any more and will try dismantling one of the standing females I've already painted so I can make up the missing pillion rider :-(

    1. Very kind of you to say so Terry - the Mantic zeds for Dragon Rampant were very much a splash'n'dash effort though. I think it's the fact that they're a "One Point Unit" in the rules that made me NOT want to spend too much time on 'em ;-)

  8. Very nicely done Wargame Addict, and as Terry says, excellent output. :)

And thanks for re-sharing the participants list. :)

    1. "excellent output" - probably because I've spent a couple of years as a passive "lurker" admiring everyone else's hard work during Zomtober ;-)

  9. That's a fair amount done for one week. Nice work.

    1. Thanks Kieron, but as I said, the DR dozen were a speed paint..... and I'd already done the purple bike as a terrain piece - but don't tell everyone! ;-)

  10. They're all looking well, but I have to say I like those Dragon Rampant zombies best of the lot. They've painted up great, from what can be seen, so definitely useful figures to have if they can be speed painted to such good effect.

  11. Thanks Roy, I had eight of the mini's left on sprues and I'm giving them a similar treatment this week, but in grey as zeds for for my take on the 'Witchfinder General' game - I just hope they turn out as well.
