Happy "Star Wars Day"

No, this blog post doesn't come from a galaxy far, far away, it just happens to be May the 4th!
I wanted to try and get my humble Hammerhead haul off the paint queue (where some oriental types are waiting - with inscrutable patience I must add) within the week, since I foolishly hinted at doing so in a comment after the previous post.

Then I remembered the words of master Yoda.......

..... so I did!
The vampyre was a quick paint job and was done by Monday morning, so I carted it off with me to work, and posed her on the wall of an old chapel in Heckmondwike

Here's all three residents of Fernbeck House in both forms.

Next up was the resin cart load (another quickie to keep the ball rolling).....

..... followed by the pair of broom riding witches, painted to match two of the coven members with their feet on terra firma (the firmer, the less terror!)

The grey robed witch on foot is carrying a black cat under her left arm, but it's difficult to spot in the photo.

Finally, the gun and crew were done and added to the ECW collection

So, "mission accomplished" and since the gun is a "Falcon", there's another Star Wars tie-in to round off the post!
I hope everyone enjoys the Bank Holiday weekend - I'm off now to finish the game I started today, before sitting down at the paint table again.

  1. Hi Greg, and thanks for reminding me that today is "Star Wars" day, which I'd totally forgotten about! I'm glad you heeded Yoda's wise words and got your new figures painted so quickly. The photo of the Vampyre crouching outside the church is very effective. I'm glad you included a group shot of your vampires in both of their forms. And, of course, I still love your witches. All the best, mate.

    1. Thanks Bryan - I'me surprised the new "Solo" film wasn't released to coincide with 'May the 4th be with you', but only another 20 days to go :-)
I thought it would be appropriate that since Jenya Ohlendorf belongs to a different clan to Mikhail and Milyena, her "bat form" should be completely different - hence she becomes a 'flock of bats' ;-)

    2. That makes a lot of sense. Good call!

  2. Have to say that shot of the vampyre on the wall at the church is genius Greg, all the stuff looks great & will there an AAr of the game you where off to finish ?

    1. Many thanks Frank, and I'll certainly be writing up the game. It's part of the Witchfinder General campaign, but I'm trying out a couple of tweaks to the rules :-)

    2. Might there also be a chaos hound or two in said game Greg ? :)

    3. Unfortunately they're still in "make up" - they arrived stuck on standard GW rectangular cavalry bases, so I've had to swap 'em onto 40mm rounds before I could start painting :-(

  3. Like Bryan, I love those witches-they are absolutely spot on.

    1. Cheers Andy - I reckon there's no point having a coven of witches unless at least half of 'em can fly ;-)
(IF they roll enough "broom moves" at the start of the game!)

  4. Wonderful additions! Really impressed at how well those Vampire counts turned out, they might have to be added to the shopping list. Great post title too. ;)

    1. If you like the amended post title, you should have seen the original ;-)
Thanks very much Michael - the first two (L to R) are Black Cat Miniatures, and the third is actually an Orc from from Flintloque.

  5. Great painting Greg, and always great when you achieve a target you set

    1. "Table Top" standard Dave, and very much an exercise in speed painting, but thank you for the encouragement :-)
I set myself the target accidentally with my off-hand comment about it being a 'small haul' - but then decided to actually go for it so I could make a start on the samurai ;-)

  6. Crikey Greg that's fast and very effective work.

The Ghoully thing is amazingly effective, the pose is outstanding, how did you paint it?

Those witches look just great, I wish I had bought them when we were there, they would be great for aerial combat with my planes ;) like Frank I am looking forward to the game report on witchfinder general.

    1. Many thanks John, I'd say "time efficient" rather than effective ;-)

The "bat Form" (Ghoully thing) is simply primed Matt Black, dry brushed Leather Brown, talons picked out in Off White then a wash with Army Painter Strong Tone. The eyes were dotted with a GW/Citadel Red with-a-daft-name, and finally the fangs picked out with an Off White drybrush.

I dunno if you ever watch "The Terrain Tutor" on YouTube, but he's posted a 'Hammerhead Show" video - concentrating on the game table terrain, but showcasing some of the trade as well. I spotted at LEAST half a dozen things I should have picked up at the show ;-)

Short delay with finishing the game due to my boss treating me to a day out at the Victorian Train Weekend at the Midland Railway Centre :-)
I have yet to discover the motive behind this blatant points scoring maneuver - Newark last weekend, Butterley this...... she's up to summat!

    2. I wondered if that was how you had painted the bat Ghoully thing, its worked really well.
I meant to have a look at the video the TT was doing but forgot, I'll look now. I usually find going round the shows that there are a number of things I see that I hum and haw about and then move on. Then at the end of the day if I've still got money in my pocket I decide to buy it after all, that's when I can't remember where I'd seen it, or even worse I forget about it until I've left. I'm still thinking I should have bought the witches, oh well there's always next year

    3. I had a look at his video and wonder if I was at the same show, there are some amazing tables I missed completely, however on one of the stills, there is a very handsome chap sat at a table talking to a gamer. Yes I'm famous, appearing on the Terain Tutor video. I can let you have an autograph - at trade rates of course. :-)

    4. Proof positive that you (or your stunt double) were actually at the show - forget about the autograph sideline, what about the royalties???
Definitely learned my lesson though, and will attempt to be 'more organised' with my shopping list for any future shows. Thankfully, I do remember seeing all of the gaming tables in the vid, so at least I know senility isn't yet taking its toll ;-)

My suspicions regarding the current Mrs G have increased, she's suggested a trip to Newark today - "Pikes & Plunder" event at the Civil War museum, ECW living history display in Newark castle and an ECW skirmish at the Queans's Sconce.
I'm being spoiled rotten for no apparent reason, somethings afoot!

  7. There must be something in the air atm as this is the second post I've read where a mass od various figures has been finished off in no time flat!
Love all the stuff you've done, but the witches are the stand-out figures imo, thiough the gragoyle thing is a very close second.

    1. Whether it's "something in the air", stars in alignment, or just the sap rising, I'm trying to make the most of it Joe :-)
I wouldn't call them a mass of figures though - especially compared to your own recent Herculean output :-)
