A Short Intermission

A combination of traveling for upcoming gigs and Mother's Day (the financial dictator's mum lives up in Yorkshire), plus a friend of said dictator's coming over to stay for a couple of days, and then having to clear my 'games room' so that a plumber can fit a replacement combi boiler at the back end of next week sadly means there'll be a short lull as far as new posts go here on the blog.

Before the forced break, I'd like to say thank you for the birthday wishes, and I had a smashing day which included a trip over to a car park over in Nottingham.

Not just any old car park mind you. At this one a walk over to the top corner resulted in me walking away with the main parts of my birthday present,
followed by a stroll down to the opposite corner to pick up the rest.
Yep, I've been totally spoiled this year, but you're just going to have to wait to find out what's in the bag, blisters and boxes.

Living so close (and having visited Games Workshop several times), I can't believe it's taken me this long to get over to Warlord and North Star - I reckon visits to Mantic and Sarissa Precision will now have to be arranged, especially as they're even closer to home!

    1. Many thanks Dave, the 'distractions' start today with a charity gig down in Wolverhampton, so it's case of grabbing time when I can!
Maintaining my focus was difficult with all the shiny temptation in the Warlord shop, but I managed to only buy what I went in for with my 10% off voucher - and gratefully received a couple of 'freebies' :-)
The 'Alladin's Cave' at North Star was just as difficult - no shop there, but once inside the inner sanctum my resolve snapped and I made a couple of impulse buys on top of the mini's I went for ;-)

    2. It's funny how real life suddenly has loads of things needed when we get new toys !
I admire your resolve in Warlord, even if North Star proved too tempting ! LOL

    3. So true Dave, and t'was ever the way :-(
North Star found my weak spot (the desire to get my better half 'into' gaming apart from the very occasional D&D session with friends) Karl (the chap in the photo) chatted at length about his passion for Steampunk, and SWMBO was most interested, so I think I've found a hook - now it just needs baiting and carefully casting ;-)

    4. I always say my best conversion was my wife ! LOL She has gamed ( Death Match) and built several of the scenery pieces we sell and I got her the suicide squad game to encourage her to game a bit more as she really liked Harley Quinn in the movie

    5. "my best conversion was my wife" :-)
It took a few moments for the penny to drop, but when it did I almost had coffee all over the place!

I've not seen the movie, but having googled it to understand the reference it's on my 'look out for list' :-)
      Is the game any good?

    6. The rules look good but haven't played yet as the wife wants me to paint the models first ! Some of the characters have extensive tatoos so may take a while.
Sorry about the coffee ! lol

  2. That's the trouble with buying new figures, they have to be painted.
Looks like a good haul there, better than a wholly jumper and some socks:-D pleased you had a good birthday, shame about the room but you should be back on line soon and toasty warm with a new boiler.
I am a bit surprised that you don't have a stock of posts ready to go for the odd occasion life stops play.:-D:-D:-D How do we, your paying public cope with this interuption in transmission?
    Take care on the roads.

    1. S'funny though, the thought of painting the newbies doesn't enter our heads when we're recruited 'em - it's only after the unboxing that realisation dawns ;-)
I did intend getting ahead of myself with blog posts, but it's one of the jobs (among several) I still need to get a round tuit for. Getting caught out with this run of events will hopefully make me put my arris in gear!
Thanks John, I'll be extra careful - I wouldn't want to risk damaging my shiny new ignition key :-)

  3. Ahh, what a great Birthday, day out! (Happy Birthday btw)
I've got to the stage where I now try not to impulse buy, but we re all weak !
I hope you're going to reveal all your goodies in a post soon.
Enjoy the gig too, should take your mind off your recent troubles and the disruption of the fitting of the new combi!

    1. Thanks Joe, it was a nice bit of "retail therapy", and the guys at both HQ's were great - even my wife enjoyed it, which trust me is saying something! ;-)
Naturally all will be revealed in due course, but to be honest, I haven't even removed the shrink wrap yet :-)

  4. A very happy belated birthday, Greg. It looks like you had a fantastic day out in Nottingham, which must surely be the gaming capital of the UK with so many companies being based there or nearby. I can remember a time when my gaming group visited Warhammer World and the Wargames Foundry shop on the same day and spending a fortune in them both. It's great to see you come away with so many goodies and I look forward to seeing your purchases. All the best, mate!

    1. Many thanks Bryan, and it's not really 'belated' - Jane's birthday is on the 13th so we celebrate a "birthday week" :-)

I know Nottingham got the nickname 'Lead City' because of all the gaming manufacturers, but with the rise in plastics I'm not so sure it fits anymore ;-) I consider myself blessed as a gamer to have so many suppliers within a 15 mile radius.
Warhammer World was partly responsible for my return to gaming (as mentioned in my very first blog post I believe), but I haven't visited since their latest revamp. Whatever we may think about their marketing strategies, there's some things they certainly do VERY well and the gaming set-up there is outstanding - and what's not cool about popping in to Bugmans Bar for lunch?! :-)

  5. A great Birthday week to you and Jane, Wargame Addict. Lots of loot was clearly bought, so I look forward to seeing them painted up in future postings. Tbh, a short break can be really beneficial as it makes me enjoy my hobby time even more when I do get to do it, and there's time to consider future projects etc.

    1. Thankyou Simon :-)
I reckon you're right - I'm only a couple of days into my forced abstention and suffering severe withdrawal!
At the moment I'm "feeding the need" by doing a bit on the ECW C-in-C's even though I'm dog tired and my eyes are aching (NOT very sensible or recommended!)

Yep, I dunno what I've done to deserve it but my better half has really spoiled me this year! I can't wait to get started on the haul :-)

    1. It's just one of those things Tim - all the time I've lived here, I've had these great suppliers virtually on my doorstep but wasn't gaming. Now I'm back into the hobby I realise just how lucky I am :-)
