I have to say,

it feels strange NOT to be painting zombies after last month's challenge!
Halloween pic as requested by Bryan!
Instead, the forces are gathering for my 17thC campaign, and appropriately, I finished the "recruiting party" from Col Bill's along with the Reaper Bones tapster and his goodwife handing out ale to the brave boys of the village who have just enlisted.
The "Inn" is another Hovels resin cast (which again took ages to paint!), while lurking between the houses in the background is one of Hasslefree Miniatures cloaked females who is acting as an enemy spy!

Moan
Now, I'll not name any names, but I'm more than a little disappointed that some figures I ordered from two companies, one at the end of September and the other the first week of October, STILL haven't arrived. (nor have I received any explanation for the delay).
I dunno if this is 'par for the course', but what makes it seem worse is that the Reaper mini's from Miniature Heroes arrived within a week and a pair of ebay purchases turned up on the doorstep within a couple of days of placing the orders.
Am I just being an impatient old grump?
End Of Moan

Ending on a brighter note, I've just got some "armed" types on the painting bench, and as soon as they're done I can start some playtesting of the Witchfinder General and Fear & Faith / Flashing Steel rules to see which I'll be using regularly.

Thanks for dropping in, my apologies for the brevity of this post, but I assure you "normal service WILL be resumed shortly".
Don't go having nightmares over that top photo!

  1. Wonderfully disturbing, I hope the gig went well. Loving the Col. Bills group, I was quite taken by the villagers in the previous post too - if for noting else having a miniature wearing a scold's bridle. Interesting to hear about Ganesh Games as a possible rule set, I had been wondering about Donnybrook, but hadn't got much further.

    1. Thanks Michael - the gigs were great and I was most impressed with the amount of effort organisers had put in with room decorations, and folks with their costumes :-)
There's also a great little "tavern set" and some "dancers & musicians" in Col Bill's catalogue which are next on my list!
I'd not thought about Donnybrook, so I'd better check those out as well - "leave no stone unturned" and all that ;-)

  2. I love your zombie make-up, Greg. I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed Halloween night as all of the trick or treaters who came a-knocking really made an effort with their costumes.

Regarding your moan, most companies I order directly from are very prompt with their deliveries, even when ordering from overseas. That said, I did have a considerable wait (nearly six months!) for an order with Black Cat Bases but that was due to the company facing major medical problems with its staff and, yes, I was notified that there would be a delay. I'm sorry to hear of your problems. It is so frustrating waiting for an order, especially if there's no explanation forthcoming.

    1. It didn't come out in the photo's as well as I'd hoped, so I'll try and dig out an old pic of my Witchfinder get up ;-)
Thanks for your comments about my moan Bryan - at least I know I'm NOT being an old grump!

  3. Cool. I picked up some of the Col. Bill's C17th figures from Stu yesterday, which will be the first from that period I'll have painted from the Depot Battalion range. No idea about the colours for that period in history, so it'll be a case of research today.

This day and age, unless the companies are one-man affairs done as an evening and weekend sideline, I'd say the delay for your orders (without any explanation) isn't on. I don't want to know who they are - but if it is Colonel Bill's, please let me know and I'll get an answer for you today.

    1. Definitely not Col Bill's Roy, very prompt and professional service so no complaints there - in fact, I'll be sending in another order to the Depot this week :-)
There's plenty of painting info on the web, but if you get stuck just let me know. I've got a load of reference material and you're more than welcome.

    2. Thanks for that. Its the civilian garb I'll be looking up, so as you as, there's plenty of stuff from off the 'web and pictures from tv shows to help me along. I once made the error of using a 'modern' colour for an item of clothing, so now make absolute sure before I paint things I'm not sure of.

    1. Cheers Andy - mind you, I'm starting to look like that after the drive home from gigs! ;-)

  5. Great looking group shot, and whilst I reallylike the figures, they wouldn't see much use in my current set-ups (Witch-finding does nothing for me, but does look fun).
As for manufacturers/traders, you really should name names imo (or at least hint heavily). I must admit to being disappointed with only one well-know "Star" trader for their speed of delivery, as I've recieved goods from China quicker. Realstically though I'd expect goods to arrive from anything over two weeks and under three as the limit of my expexpectations.

    1. Cheers Joe. I'm happy to say that the "witch-finding" is more Soloman Kane-esque than Matthew Hopkins! I fancy a "supernatural" element to run alongside some "historical" gaming set during the English Civil War period :-)
Hint? How about "very dark coloured feline figure mounts" and "sounds like - Green go for tea" ;-)
I'm mainly disappointed because the September order included a couple of mini's I was hoping to paint as part of the Zomtober Challenge and the other includes a mini I need to feature in the start of my "Witchfinder" narrative campaign :-(
