A Place To Lay Your Weary Head

After returning to the parking lot empty handed, Travis gives Brad some potentially good news, as he points across to a group of buildings he's been studying while Brad was away. The old business premises over by the club and McD's is surrounded by a stout fence and could be a more secure hangout than the old gas station they'd just left.

Brad takes Hannah, Zac and Nate over for a recce - ignore the PEF on the roof of McD's - it's actually inside the building, but if I don't put 'em where I can see 'em, I forget they're there!
There's another PEF on the roof of the nightclub, but thankfully out of shot!
A third PEF is standing by the fence, and Brad spots it as he steps around the corner, having seen through the mesh gate that the yard looks clear.
The PEF resolves as a group of three survivors.
The "Meet & Greet" didn't go very well - probably because of Brad's grumpy mood after the earlier failed supply run,
The strangers were "Willing to exchange pleasantries, but that's all", which I interpreted as agreeing to help see off the zombies who seemed keen to gate crash their conversation.
The two groups adopted an all round defence, erm,  all round de fence, as the shuffling cadavers closed in from all sides.
The first round of melee was going very well for the survivors - I started with the axe wielding teenage girl in the pink dress and worked around clockwise, and everyone hacked down the zed facing them until it came to Zac (who was facing two zombies and managed to fend them both off, but both remained in the fight). The pace picked up again with Brad cleaving the skull of his opponent with his trusty machete, which only left Nate to sink his Bowie knife into the cranium of the zombie facing him.
Was he distracted by his best buddy Zac struggling against two of the walking dead?
Maybe he was too casual since he was fighting a corpse with only one arm?
Whatever the reason, his blow failed to connect and the zombie lunged forward and tore away a chunk of his throat and a large portion of his jugular!
Nate collapsed to the ground and was "Obviously Dead" in seconds
The fight continued for a second round, as the two groups of survivors split to finish off the attacking zeds.
Having cleared their side of the street, the strangers left without a word, in much the same way as the couple in the previous encounter - to be fair, they probably didn't see Nate go down, and would be unaware of the grief  Brad, Hannah and Zac would be experiencing right at this moment.
They were also unaware of how Brad would react to having folk he'd just helped skulking off on him for the second time in a day!
Having made sure Nate wouldn't re-animate (a rotten job, but somebody's gotta do it), and getting Zac to bust the padlock off the gate, Brad set off to get the rest of the group and their vehicles.

To Be Continued.........

Postscript: R.I.P Nate, who joined Brad's group way back on day 7 of the zombie apocalypse when he turned up at Campbell's Farm with his buddy Zac (That episode was in early September of 2017).
Farewell little lead buddy, you'll be missed!

  1. The group doesn't seem to be having too much luck at the moment, but them's the breaks during a zombie apocalypse, great report Greg very enjoyable

    1. Things haven't gone at all well for the group since the "burglary" event - and the last two encounters since then have been very brief affairs, so I'm glad you're still enjoying reading them Dave :-)

  2. RIP Nate. That was a most unfortunate setback but hopefully things will get better for Team Brad. I'm rooting for them.

    1. Thanks Brian, Nate's repaint is scheduled for next week and the group have requested no flowers.

Been busy all weekend but definitely playing the next part of this encounter tomorrow!

  3. Brad's group are having a bad time of it Greg, first no supplies & now Nate is killed, but be careful or John will start saying your killing off your actors so that you don't have to pay them lol

    1. It would seem they're not having much luck (but thankfully they're winning most of the initiative rolls, or things could have been MUCH worse), but as for John's possible slanderous accusations - I don't pay them :-)
I was fortunate enough to round up a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs :-)

  4. sucks that Nate got taken down mate, especially as the group can't seem to recruit at the minute.

    1. Cheers Andy - definitely lost one of the stalwarts of the group :-(
I wasn't sure how things would go once I switched to "campaign time" with the rules. It's certainly proving to be interesting :-)

  5. Easy come easy go, that's the trouble going hand to hand with so many zombies, someone is bound to bite you. Shane it was Nate.
Another great game and maybe they've found a safe base but I wouldn't put too much money on it. ;)

    1. They've obviously got away with taking the zeds on in melee too many times in the past John. Definitely pushed their luck a bit too far this time and paid the price for it.
Brad's GOT to take the responsibility for it, but I can't blame him being miffed with the "strangers" - the first pair obviously attracted the horde which botched the supply run, and the last three stalled the recce and got them caught on the street corner........

Been out over the weekend and itching to get the next installment played :-)

    1. Cheers Mike - it's a biased opinion, but I reckon All Things Zombie : Final Fade Out has just GOT to be one of best solo games available :-)

  7. Well that was an unexpected set-back!
Brad must be at a very low point atm, here's hoping the rest of the adventure goes better.

    1. Totally out of the blue Joe. The gang have taken on the biters in hand-to-hand fights plenty of times in the past and made short work of them. Obviously they (I) had become complacent!
Brad has certainly been under pressure to deliver something for the group - the "Keeping It Together" test is going to be interesting ;-)

  9. Fab AAR 🙂 These types of campaign games are exactly what I love - as everyone else has said, too bad regarding Nate's fate, but I think that it's really neat you can go back like you did and know exactly when he joined the story and now when he's left it.
