East Of Jacksboro

Following on from the previous encounter ( Jacksboro ), once they'd cleared the suburbs, Brad had made his mind up that they needed to try and make good their losses from leaving the RV behind. A short time 'off the road' to plan their next move and grab some shut-eye would also be a good idea - he didn't use the old phrase "Grab some Z's" anymore!.
An isolated single storey house appeared on a bend up ahead, and Brad eased on the brakes and cut the motor..........
....... playing "fair", I still rolled for any zombies generated by the engine noise where the pickup entered the encounter area before also rolling for the five members of the group - were the results typical of how this encounter would go?!

The group climbed out of their vehicle and assessed the situation -
Jacksboro was the centre of a busy agricultural area, and there were a LOT of wandering zeds surrounding them, probably from farms and packaging plants in the vicinity. They also thought they saw movement at the far end of the hedgerow in front of the house which turned out to be just bad cases of nerves, (raising the ER to 3), and to their surprise, a young woman holding a rifle was standing just beyond the house!

Amy Littlelake. Rep3 Pep1 Sav2 Free Spirit BAR and 1 food

She seemed friendly, but a little bewildered so Brad yelled over to her to head for the house as he set off with the group straight for the front door. Obviously in some state of shock, Amy stood rooted to the spot. (Failed to activate)
Brad lashed out at the zed barring their path, knocking it to the ground where Nate finished it off with a well aimed kick to the head - it didn't even get chance to groan, but the surrounding zombies could be heard as they stood around watching the survivors hungrily.
Brad was relieved to find the front door unlocked, and raced to the back of the house as soon as he'd swung it open and seen the main room empty -
Nate and Zac took up positions by the windows, and Travis closed and bolted the door as Hannah followed Brad towards the rear doors.
Amy was still rooted to the spot as the zombies were moving in! (Still failed activation) Brad and Hannah yelled at her to make a run for the house before it was too late!

Their shouts seemed to spark her into life, and she ran towards the door where Brad ushered both girls into the safety of the house,
closing the (glass!) doors behind him as he stepped inside with the zeds closing in,
on both sides of the house.
Brad quickly ordered the furniture rearranged to buy some extra time.
To Be Continued....

Meanwhile on the painting front, I was recently lucky enough to grab the 'survivors' from the Zombicide Black Plague core set. The four guys will eventually get done as a party of adventurers for D&D,
but the girls (which were the main reason I bought the set) jumped the queue and have been painted straight away for Witchfinder General
and of course, the week wouldn't be the same without knocking out another cavalry regiment - this time a little more colourful, and representing Astley's cavaliers.

We've got three days 'on the road' this weekend, so I probably won't be able to visit any blogs or respond to any comments until Monday, so until then, thanks for your time here and I hope you make the best of the weekend before the next Big Chill arrives.

  1. Great opening to the next encounter Greg, a very productive week on the painting front as well by the looks of it. Hope you have a good time on the road, and lets hope the bog chill holds off until you get back home

    1. Many thanks Dave, it's been a L O N G weekend with 3 gigs and just short of 900 miles on the clock, but brilliant venues and audiences :-)
It looks like "The Beast From The East" might affect our bookings this weekend though!

  2. Amy Littlelake!?! LOL, Greg :-) Great start to the adventure, and nice cliff-hanger too. More painting as well, blimey, you're cramming this post in, and I always enjoy seeing more of your "ECW" project taking shape - you paint a cavalry unit quicker than I can do a set of hooves!!

    1. She's a NOT Amy Pond mini, so just HAD to have a tongue in cheek name Simon ;-)
Circumstances in the campaign dictated that the group needed somewhere to 'regroup', but it's looking like they've jumped out of the frying pan of Jacksboro and into the fire at the Twain's place!

  3. This is gearing up to be another fine adventure as our heroes take cover against a big horde of zombies. I, too, had to chuckle at the name, Any Littlelake. Nice one, Greg!
I found the six survivors you have from "Zombicide:Black Plague" a lot of fun to paint. I'm not surprised that you painted the two females first - they're cracking sculpts!

    1. Thanks Bryan, needless to say, it hasn't gone at all as I expected from the very first dice rolls! :-)
I've had an eye open for the "Nel" mini since I first saw the artwork for her, grabbing the full set of characters was just a bonus - I definitely need some more of the Black Plague zombies too!

    1. Cheers Andy, but this encounter has convinced me that I desperately need to knock-up some more "domestic scatter terrain" along the lines of your brilliant furnishings :-)
I think the target of 2 playable ECW armies by the end of Feb could be hit - just!

  5. A good start to the story line looking forward to the rest. This is what I signed up for.

Not sure I understand how the two women with the big swords will fit into WFF? Tell us more. However I'm looking forwards to the opening of this story line.

    1. Many thanks John, as for the 'two women', Nel (the redhead) virtually wrote her own back-story - she's the daughter of the tavern landlord and she's wielding her grandfathers greatsword which is kept behind the bar.
Not sure about the other one yet, is she a member of a militant church order or just some woman with a dodgy habit?!

  6. Hahaha great post. I'm just doing a bit of catch up at the moment. In my minds eye I can see the little miniatures trying to push that giant fridge against the door. Great photo. The team is looking a little surrounded. Yikes.

    1. Glad you're enjoying it so far Ivor, and trust me, I'm as keen to find out how this turns out as you are :-)
The 'new D&D party' are in the (ever growing) paint queue, but hopefully they'll get done sooner rather than later ;-)

    1. Thanks Joe, I think developments are pretty much in the hands of the dice gods ;-)
The house is one of TT Combat's offerings and I just cut and scribed some foamcore to make removeable interior walls.

  9. Yep, the big chill has arrived here. Snow. Snow. And some more snow. Top stuff getting another unit of cavalry out of the way, you won't have many of them left to do, now?

    1. Glorious sunshine after a slight dusting of snow here atm - very picturesque, and I bet there's a few folks cursing after their panic shopping yesterday ;-)
Currently painting a unit of "Lobsters", then I've just got one more unit of horse that I'll be putting together from the 'sprue sale' haul I got from Warlord Games recently :-)

    2. Hammerhead show at Newark, this Saturday. Will you be in attendance Greg?

I was just saying to Vagabond that I'm hoping to get down to the show - snow allowing! Luckily I'm not working it, so have the option to say sod it.

    3. The gig in St Austel on Friday night has been cancelled due to the weather warnings, so it's now just down to how much snow we get in the East Midlands - yesterday's "light dusting" has been replaced by repeated heavy snow showers today.
They're predicting a slight rise in temperatures for the weekend, so I reckon it's just a case of waiting to see :-)

    4. Greg, Hammerhead show has just been officially postponed. The police have closed the venue to events due to the snow, so the show has been rescheduled. Just thought I'd let you know, in case you didn't hear and journeyed there on the day. Roy
